The Payroll Comedian: A stage for the most entertaining speaker in payroll

Thepayrollcomedian.com is the dedicated website of The Payroll Comedian, the keynote speaker alter ego of Max van der Klis-Busink (MCIPP, RPP). Max combines years of experience in global payroll with humour and storytelling, and has delivered dozens of keynotes to thousands of professionals worldwide. For this client we designed and built a separate Framer website that presents his speaker profile in an energetic, visually striking way.

The site stands apart from the main Passion For Payroll platform and is fully focused on one goal: convincing event organisers to book Max as a keynote speaker. Design, portfolio structure and booking form are entirely tuned to that.

1. A keynote speaker deserves a website that forms the stage

Max delivers keynotes at international conferences for organisations such as TAPS, PayrollOrg, Payzaar, Shell and Mazars, in cities including New York, Sydney, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Indianapolis. The website needed to make that energy and international reach felt immediately.

Client goals: A striking, energetic website that positions Max as the keynote speaker in global payroll — with a clear portfolio, social proof via attendee quotes, and a low-friction booking form.

User insight: The audience consists of event organisers, HR leaders and conference managers looking for a speaker. They want to quickly see who Max is, what he delivers, who he has spoken for and how to book him. Video and photos matter more here than long copy.

2. A Framer website built for visual impact

Based on The Payroll Comedian’s playful brand profile, we designed a fully custom Framer website with dark backgrounds, gold accents and large-scale photography showing Max on stage.

Hero with personality: The homepage opens with a strong statement (“Keynotes should be relatable, inspiring and above all: FUN!”) combined with full-size photos of Max in action. The hero includes a direct CTA to booking.

Portfolio with keynote cases: The heart of the website: an extensive portfolio with individual keynote cases. Each case includes a title, description, year, client(s), location(s), attendee numbers and the organisation’s logo. Including photo carousels and YouTube video embeds of recorded keynotes. Cases range from “The Opportunity is NOW!” (TAPS, Sydney, 650+ attendees, 9/10 rating) to “A day in the life of a payroll professional: Fred’s Story” (Payzaar, 300+ attendees from 10+ countries) and “From the garage to the stage” (Shell, TAPS, PayrollOrg).

Video integration: YouTube video embeds per keynote case, so event organisers can immediately see how Max owns a stage. This is the strongest persuasion tool on the site.

Attendee testimonials: A scrolling section with quotes from participants describing the atmosphere and impact of Max’s keynotes.

Responsiveness: Fully responsive design. Photo carousels, video embeds, portfolio cards and the booking form work seamlessly on every device.

3. One clear conversion goal: book Max

The entire website is organised around one action: booking a keynote.

Booking form: An extensive contact form at the bottom of the page with fields for name, business email, company name, event information, planned event date and additional information. No detours — straight to the point.

CTA strategy: At multiple points on the page, “Book a free discovery call” and “Book a meeting with Max” buttons guide visitors towards the form or booking page.

Social media integration: Direct links to The Payroll Comedian YouTube channel and Max’s LinkedIn profile — the two channels where event organisers most often discover him.

4. From speaker profile to booking platform

The website went live as a visually strong, content-rich platform that fully showcases Max’s keynote proposition. Event organisers get everything they need to decide: video, photos, cases, testimonials and a direct booking form.

Tech stack:

  • Platform: Framer
